It’s time for another episode of Five Favorites! In this series, we pick our five favorite drone videos from the past month and talk about them for a bit! No real qualifications for our selections – just things we liked or that stood out as special that we wanted to share with the community. Ready to jump in? Let’s do it!
FunkPV: M3 Endor 2 Run
I’ve been following FunkPV for a while, and have always enjoyed his content. His latest video is truly special. He documents a race practice session from multiple perspectives. Obviously, you have the fast-paced racing shots of his quad darting through the course, but he also puts in some Mavic footage and some static GoPro shots as well.
The end result lets the viewer better understand the course path, and encapsulates the feeling of a day practicing. The actual racing footage is spectacular too! FunkPV sets up a great course that really utilizes the environment. In particular, the use of the dead tree branches as makeshift air gates is extremely impressive!
Snake FPV: Get Dat Practice In!
As you may have noticed from previous editions of Five Favorites, I am a big fan of videos that utilize an interesting space well. This can be a super unique mountain location (which we will get to!) or, in the case of Snake FPV’s video, an open field at a racetrack!
Snake pulls off some crazy freestyle. I like to call this type of flying controlled chaos – you have a great mix of fast loops and rolls, darting between objects, and powerlooping small gaps. In particular, his aerobatics around some of the fencing structure is definitely worth watching! It just goes to show that you can pull off some crazy stunts and make a compelling video even in an open field.
Trinx FPV: I love the tree
If we have Snake FPV with controlled chaos freestyle, then we have Trinx FPV with floaty flying freestyle! His “I love the tree” video is a whimsical flight around a tree that looks like it is just starting to bud for spring. The flying is amazingly controlled, but feels relaxed and graceful. Trinx establishes a great flow and rolls with it.
Shots like the orbit over the tree and the loops through the branches are impressive to watch. Similar to Snake’s video, it just shows that you don’t need a crazy location to fly – just a tree and some imagination!
Le Drib: switch up
Onto more classic freestyle, Le Drib lights up an office park during a sunset flight. Now, you may have seen the standard office park sessions before, but I think Le Drib’s timing makes this one special. The sunset sky paired with the reflective glass from the building makes for a fantastic combination. It makes the world feel bigger, and the dives looking at the sunset reflected in the glass are fascinating.
Obviously, the flying sets this video apart too. Great orbits, loops, and dives are found throughout. Le Drib does a great job utilizing the full environment including trees, staircases, and even chasing a car out of the park.
Showmewhatyougot: This is Colorado STYLE
The Showmewhatyougot crew definitely has the location winner of the month with their “Colorado STYLE” video. These guys took the time to hike up a mountain to get some spectacular flying footage. You get a mix of high orbits over the mountains, drops into and through rocky canyons, and some spectacular scenery.
Jet’s clips in particular are amazing to watch. His passes through the rock formations are unreal. One wrong move and you for sure have a lost quad. If you are looking for some crazy flying in an enviable location, make sure to give this one a watch!
Until next time!
And that does it for April! We will be back in the beginning of June to look at May’s Five Favorites. We’ll see you guys next time!
