If you follow social media or have attended a race any time recently, it’s likely you’ve heard people raving about the beneficial effects of soft mounting your motors. Soft mounting refers to the practice of adding some anti-vibration mounting tape between your quadcopter’s motors and the arms. We had intended to do a “quadcopter mythbusters” article on the subject in the near future, but recently Joshua Bardwell posted a video that so adequately covers the subject that we no longer feel the need. So, instead, we’ll just post a link to that video. We highly recommend you check it out:

TLDW(atch):

Soft mounting works. It noticeably reduces the high-frequency noise floor of your quadcopter. This results in a smoother flight experience and a slight increase in efficiency. Quadcopters with older or crappier motors will see more performance improvements.
